Because animals can feel things the same way we do, because they are not a problem if we do not bother them, and because they deserve to be loved and respected, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is one of the wildlife organizations taking a stand to save the planet one animal at a time.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has been the largest animal rights organization in the world for a long time, with over 6.5 million members and supporters worldwide.

PETA primarily focuses on the four major areas where the highest volume of animals suffer and the most intensely for the most prolonged periods.

These aspects are animal use as test subjects in laboratories, animals in the food industry, animal cruelty and use in the clothing trade, and animals in the entertainment industry.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) also works on a variety of other issues affecting animals, including the cruel killing of birds, rodents, and other animals who are considered “pests” in homes and other environments, as well as cruelty to pets and domesticated animals.

How do People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals work?

PETA works through cruelty investigations, public education, research, legislation, animal rescue, celebrity involvement, special events, and protest campaigns.

PETA also accepts donations and contributions from people and organizations willing to support their cause.

They constantly engage in investigations of animal cruelty cases around the world and welcome reports of such cases from concerned people.

Brief history

Before People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals existed, anyone could do two vital things to help animals.

They could either volunteer at a local animal shelter or offer financial support to a humane society.

However, while many of the animal support organizations did the best they could to rescue and bring comfort to animals who are used by humans, they did not pay attention to using animals in the entertainment industry for food or why their skin, feathers, and other parts are used in the fashion industry.

These organizations also never questioned using animals in laboratories as test subjects.

The founders of PETA sought to offer people who care more than volunteering and offering donations as the only option to support suffering animals.

PETA founders wanted to encourage more people to adopt a healthy vegan diet and show that it is not only possible but easy to shop cruelty-free.

They wanted a loud and public protest against cruelty to animals in all forms, and they wanted to reveal what went into animal laboratories.

Supported by thorough investigative work, international media coverage, and consumer protests, PETA brings together corporate, scientific, and legislative community members to get large-scale and long-term changes geared towards improving the quality of life of animals and preventing their deaths.
